QUOTE (Feli @ Jun 12 2008, 02:55 AM) Interesting skills. This seems somewhat similar to Yrael's biomerge though.
EDIT: Also, some of those skills remind me of Bioshock, and in some ways don't make senes. Killer Bees? What does that have to do with Genetics? Genetically altered bees (after all you are commanding them0- Same goes for the other organisms under your control. Never played Bishock and I'll have to take a glance at Yrael's Biomerge. A draft is just that, the more input the better. Thanks

QUOTE (Feli @ Jun 12 2008, 03:03 AM) Ooooh, I see. So you alter stuff other than your self. Yep, yep, yep... Starting off with experiments on oneself may be fatal-- animal testing may save your life. Not that I'm endorsing animal testing irl.

Yer already a mutant, Gaetele.
But seriously, this is basically a slightly altered version of Yrael's skill

Is this basically how we should outline most skills? So that we are able to balance out how many of our abilities effect each body part either our own, our friends, or our enemies. Or is there perhaps a better chart wherein buffs, defences, and offences are taken into account as well as targetted area? QUOTE (Kunin @ Mar 28 2008, 04:32 PM) Here's the basic outline for what I'm thinking about.
Three abilties for each category of differing levels. Each ability costs "points" which are gained with ranks in the main ability "DNA Manipulation". Each rank, of 15, gives one manipulation point which is required to activate the abilities. Point requirements for each ability are based the level of the ability, on average between 1-3 points. This allows the player to choose different abilities to have active at any one time, but with an overall strength limit.

I'll go through Yrael's ideas for abilities and fill them into the categories, but feel free to suggest some. Edit: For quote bracket

Hmm. I'd rename the skill to 'Genetic Engineering' or 'Biotech' instead of Genetics.
A couple of ideas based on existing biotech.
RNAi - RNA interference. By analysis of the subject's genes you can inject double stranded RNA into the target, shutting down the genetic pathway of your choice for a limited time.
Effect: One or more of target's defenses is removed, YOUR choice.
Genetic Engineering - Allows you to obtain DNA from an organism and safely express it in your body.
Examples:
Deinococcus radiodurans -- Microorganism that rebuilds its DNA after destruction of the helix from radiation.
Effect: Radiation Resistance
R. sylvatica -- North american wood frog. Specialized proteins allows it to freeze and thaw its tissues without cell lysis
Effect: Either Cold Immunity or Cold Immunity when in a Cryogenic State. You appear dead.

QUOTE (-Neil- @ Jun 23 2008, 10:03 AM) you do realize double stranded RNA -is- DNA it's what the D stands for Wrong! Ribonucleic acid is a polymer. Deoxyribonucleic acid is a ribonucleic acid polymer except missing a single Oxygen atom. That's why it's deoxyribonucleic acid.

QUOTE (-Neil- @ Jun 23 2008, 04:03 PM) you do realize double stranded RNA -is- DNA it's what the D stands for RNA is not DNA. RNA carries the message in eukaryotic organisms to the cytoplasm for protein synthesis. *chuckle* There is more than just DNA! RNAi: http://www.ambion.com/techlib/resources/RNAi/index.htmlhttp://www.ambion.com/techlib/append/RNAi_mechanism.htmlOne way to induce the RNAi response is to literally bathe nematode worms ( C. elegans) in a solution containing double stranded RNA specific for your favorite gene! Also double stranded RNA is used as the genetic material for certain ambisense viruses. For example in the Bunyaviridae virus family (think Hanta virus) one of the three genomic segements of the virus is ambisense.
